Sharing knowledge and making information available within a construction project saves costs, reduces failure costs and helps to build better and faster. Among other things, BIM and various (open) standards contribute to digital information exchange and thus help to improve construction quality. For this reason, digital information exchange is one of the three themes at DigiBouw. We highlight - in chronological order - three sessions from the DigiBouw 2024 program that relate to it.

1 Open standards
BuildingSMART International is the global trade association driving the digital transformation of the building industry. The organization strives for improvement by creating and applying open, international standards and solutions for infrastructure and buildings. During this session, Rob Roef, chairman of the Dutch subchapter of BuildingSMART International and business developer Digital Built Environment at TNO, will answer the question of how open standards contribute to a more efficient and 'better' construction process. Roef will talk about the latest developments in openBIM standards and how they can be practically applied in Dutch practice. He will also discuss the future of the Dutch construction industry under the influence of a number of international developments.

Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 13:30 to 14:00 at the Stage Beatrix Theater

2 Want to know more about openBIM?
Paul Bos, co-owner Root B.V. talks about it during his presentation 'A unique opportunity to upgrade your knowledge of openBIM: The buildingSMART Professional Certification Program' The buildingSMART Professional Certification Program provides an international standard for openBIM and supports construction professionals in their digital transformation. The certification program has four levels: Entry Level, Foundation Level, Management Level and Practitioner Level. Each level provides participants with the necessary knowledge and recognition, and boosts their careers in the rapidly changing world of openBIM.
Bos: "Specifically for the Netherlands, we have already implemented the Foundation Level, with an additional Dutch module available to both training providers and students. During the presentation, Bos announced the launch of the Entry Level, and - also very special! - during Digibouw, visitors can participate in the FaStart program, and directly take the exam without prior training. A great way to quickly validate your knowledge of openBIM.

3 Email has quite a few limitations.
And so, when it comes to digital communication, it's also time for changes and improvements. Separate email applications are becoming a thing of the past; the future is for messages that fit perfectly into your BIM environment. No one wants to waste valuable time on endless emails. Communication should work, it should be simple and effective.
During this session, Mathijs Natrop, Certified BIM Professional at BIM Supporters, and Daan Arts Manager Innovation and Digitalization Improve at JAJO will tell you all about the open standard BIM Collaboration Format (BCF). BCF is an international, open standard developed and managed by buildingSMART International. BCF works with most common BIM software. Natrop and Arts believe this BCF standard is the way to transform digital communication. This presentation will be of interest to both experienced BIM professionals and inveterate emailadepts. You will go home with new insights and tools to collaborate smarter.
