The construction industry is fully committed to digital collaboration throughout the chain. This requires uniformity: it will only succeed if we speak the same 'language' by standardizing data, and if we can exchange our information easily and securely digitally. digiGO is committed to this and supports the market in doing so; for example, by drawing up guidelines for information management. During DigiBouw on November 20 and 21, digiGO is putting two of the guidelines in the spotlight at Jaarbeurs: the ILS O&E and the Basic ILS Point Cloud.
'The Information Delivery Specification Design and Engineering (ILS O&E) ensures the right moment of information delivery in the design and engineering phase,' says Timothy Lievendag (manager digital at BAM). Together with Oeds de Meer (process & information manager at SBB Development and Construction), Lievendag is part of digiGO's ILS O&E management committee. The ILS O&E guideline is based on the BIM Basis ILS and specifies when information is captured, shared and received.
Transfer of information
'On the one hand, the ILS O&E directive promotes communication between cooperating market parties and, on the other, it prevents errors and inefficiencies,' Lievendag said. 'It's all about the transfer of information. Many of the guidelines that are already in place came about because leaders in the sector started working on certain topics. Often these are large companies. We find that SMEs, comakers and other parties are sometimes still a bit hesitant when it comes to digitization. They want to know what the market and the big partners are going to do and how they can fit in. It is our job as digiGO to bring the how and why of these guidelines to the attention of building-wide.
'We published the ILS O&E guideline in an open standard,' De Meer adds. 'That makes it very accessible, including within the tools for SMEs, such as ILS Configurator. That is an online tool with which you can easily make agreements prior to your project about requesting and delivering building information.'
Measured situation
For those less into the subject: a point cloud is a collection of digital points in a 3D environment, which you create with laser scans. In the built environment, this technique is increasingly used. Niels Vossebeld (experienced independent professional) and member of digiGO's Basis ILS Point Cloud management committee, says: "The Basis ILS Point Cloud guideline helps you reach good agreements when requesting and delivering point clouds. In practice, it appears that some guidance is still needed. Although laser scanning has been used regularly for more than 15 years, methods and technologies are still developing. If you want to visualize an existing situation, you can't just say to someone: 'just do me a point cloud'. Yet this still happens too often. Our guideline provides guidance and helps you with how to do it. For example, by making agreements in advance about the coordinate system, fixed measurement reference points or something simpler: should the point cloud be in color or black and white?
Visit DigiBouw!
DigiGO is a partner of DigiBouw on November 20 and 21, 2024 in the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. That is the event for professionals from the design, construction and engineering sector (the OBT sector) on new technologies and digitalization. There are 50 inspiring knowledge sessions by top speakers and administrators from the construction sector.
One of these zooms in on the use of point clouds. Under the title "One point cloud is not the other," Jasper Voortman, member of the Basic ILS Point Cloud Management Committee, will explain to you on Nov. 20 at 11:15 a.m. in Dome 2 how, as a client, you get the point cloud that fits your issue.
